PYGEUM or RED STINKWOOD

Pygeum africanum HooK

Description

It’s a tree of up to 30 m that grows in the forests of central Africa. Leaves are oblong, crenate, coriaceous. The small white flowers are pentamers and found in racemes, with a red peduncle. Fruit is a globose drupe with a hollow on the top.

The bark.


Indications

  • Benign prostatic adenoma and related urination disorders.
  • Adenectomy: treatment prior and post-surger
  • Prostatitis.

Some authors combined it with echinacea, nettle and sabal.
